The word blog is the amalgamation of the two words “web” and “log.” The term blogging often refers to sharing ones opinions, beliefs and thoughts on a website. The blogs could be for work or pleasure. Novices and beginners who wish to make a blog often ask this question “What exactly is blogging?” Online blogging can also be termed as an online diary where entries are displayed in a chronological, date wise manner. Blogs may also contain videos, graphics, images and links to other websites. Online blogs often become a forum for discussion as viewers are allowed to comment on what the “blogger” has written.

History of Blogging

Have we ever given a thought to how blogs became such a huge part and parcel of our lives? Everybody reads blogs. We follow blogs by celebrities, friends and relatives. We also read blogs on topics which interest us. It is such an immense source of information. www.Links.net is recognized as the first blogging site ever. It was created by Justin Hall in 1994. Justin Hall was a student at Swarthmore College then. He called Links.net his online personal diary.
John Barger coined the word “Web Log” in December 1997. Peter Meherloz who was  a programmer shortened “Web Log” to Blog in 1999.

Nowadays, Blog is a common part of every website. In 1998, the first instance of blogging on a traditional news site was observed when Jonathan Dube used blogging for “Charlotte Observer” by blogging the hurricane Bonnie.
The late nineties and the early twenty first century marked the growth of blogging in several areas. Political blogging became very common.
