Our lives are dependent on our computers these days. We spend more time on our computer than we spend anywhere else. Most people believe that since they spend most of their time working on the internet, their connection speed is important and not their computer. But the truth is that if you have a slow computer and a fast internet connection, you will not be able to make use of the speed. Upgrading your Memory

Your computer’s memory is most important factor that determines the speed of your computer. If you are using a 256 MB RAM. Please don’t expect your computer to run fast. The configuration of your computer is vital if you expect it to perform well. For example, if you have a 256 GB hard disk and a Pentium 4 processor, you will also need to upgrade your RAM from 256 MB. Your computer may give a huge amount of problem if you use this sort of configuration.
You may check the configuration I.e. processor, processor speed, RAM, Hard disk etc by right clicking on “my computer” and choosing “properties” from the drop down menu.

Upgrading your Hardware
Your hardware is crucial where speed is concerned. Good quality, genuine hardware can work wonders In speeding your computer up. Ensure that you are using the latest quality hardware manufactured by the company for optimum speed. You may also visit your nearest computer store or service centre for more help on the kind of hardware you would need. You may consider a change of processor or a larger hard disk. Using too many plug and play devices also slows the computer down. Consider removing any devices that you do not use too frequently.

Cleaning up Your Desktop
Remove all the unwanted clutter from your desktop, unnecessary icons and barely used programs slow down the computer and affect the speed of your RAM. Take time to remove any unwanted software. If you have a habit of downloading software from the internet, try not to create their icon on your desktop. Remove the software once you finish using it. You may also use the disk cleanup facility provided by windows to remove any unwanted files and temp files from your computer. A disk cleanup can boost the speed of your computer.

Checking Your System for Viruses
If your system is slow, then this is probably the first step you should take to ensure that the speed is up to your expectation. Viruses can be very dangerous and subtle at times. Some viruses are very difficult to detect and remove. Ensure that your anti virus is strong and updated. New viruses come out every day. Always update your antivirus. You should always do regular virus checks. if you download software from the internet, make sure you scan it before downloading it.
